Samsara rolls out tools to tackle bad driving following 20% increase in speeding

Samsara has rolled out a host of fleet tools on its platform in light of its latest data showing a 20% increase in severe speeding over the past few months during lockdown

Speeding is the leading cause of preventable accidents, Samsara says, along with distracted driving and tailgating. In addition to being a safety hazard, these risky behaviours can put a fleet out of business.

Samsara suggests fleets adopt preventative technology and data-driven insights and is consequently introducing several new safety features that bring artificial intelligence (AI) into the cabin and offer more advanced reporting tools for safety managers.

These include: Tailgating Detection; Distracted Driving Detection; Preventative In-Cab Alerts for drivers when tailgating and/or distracted driving is detected; Configurable Safety Scores that are customisable by assigning specific weights to harsh events, speeding severity, defensive driving, etc; and an Enhanced Safety Report.

These new safety features are available now for Samsara customers. Customers who already have Samsara’s AI dash cams, will see Tailgating and Distracted Driving Detection become available in their dashboard settings (Settings > Cameras & Safety) at no extra cost over the course of next week.

Customers using older camera models can get in touch with Samsara to try their CM31 or CM32 devices free of charge.

Customers without any dash cams can get in touch for a free trial too, while those with Samsara Vehicle Gateways (VGs) installed can still use the configurable Safety Scores and enhanced Safety Report based on harsh event data from your VGs.

New customers are urged to get in touch with Samsara to find out more about their fleet solutions and for a demonstration of its fleet management platform.
