SEAT Tarraco plug-in hybrid to offer 30 miles or more range

SEAT is launching a plug-in hybrid version of the Tarraco large SUV, offering sub-50g/km emissions (WLTP) and marking the brand’s first-ever PHEV model.

Due on sale in 2020 as part of the brand’s electrification plans – which will see six electric and plug-in hybrid SEAT and CUPRA models launched by the beginning of 2021 – the Tarraco PHEV marries up a 150hp 1.4-litre TSI petrol with an 85kW electric motor and a 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack, giving a total output of 400Nm and 245hp – making it the most powerful Tarraco in the range.

Debuting next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show married up to a new FR trim, the drivetrain brings an electric-only range of more than 30 miles while also offering a top speed of 135mph and 0-62mph time of 7.4 seconds.

The new, sporty FR trim – which also becomes available to order in 2020 – is further intended to enhance the appeal of the Tarraco with a range of features. Design changes bring wider wheel arches, rear spoiler and FR-specific 19-inch alloy wheels, with machined 20-inch wheels on offer, plus coast-to-coast rear light, bespoke FR branding and a new ‘Fura Grey’ colour.

Interior revisions bring a new navigation system with 9.2-inch screen, electric sports bucket seats with memory function on the driver side, aluminium pedals and a new sports steering wheel with FR logo.

New options include trailer assist and parking heater, which warms the car faster in cold weather.

“The Tarraco plug-in hybrid perfectly illustrates our move towards a more sustainable mobility, yet maintaining the dynamism and fun-to-drive, typical of any SEAT. The Tarraco will be one of the few options with a plug-in hybrid powertrain on the large SUV segment, and we believe that it has a great potential,” said Luca de Meo, president of SEAT.
