Smart Fleet Solutions scoops award for training and development programmes

Smart Fleet Solutions has earnt recognition for its in-house training and development programmes with a Highly Commended award in the Sentinel Business Awards.

Run by the Sentinel paper for Staffordshire, the awards go back to 1995 and cover a range of categories; including the Training Excellence Award, which included Smart Fleet Solutions as a finalist for 2020.

The award recognises the vehicle refurbishment specialist’s commitment to training and development, which over the last four years has seen it invest more than £10m in state-of-the-art equipment and facilities at its four technical centres across the UK – including at Cold Meece, in Stone, Wiltshire, Nottinghamshire and Scotland.

CEO Theo Kortlandn (pictured) said the company’s focus on training has given it the resources to continually outperform the market and grow its business based on its smart way of working and dedication to innovation.

Kortland added: “There is a shortage of skilled technicians across the refurbishment industry so Smart Fleet Solutions has created a bespoke training programme to deliver both career opportunities and business growth in our local communities. Our continual investment in training, from apprenticeships and trainee programmes to refresher courses for skilled technicians helps safeguard our position as an employer of choice. Being recognised for this strategy in the Sentinel Business Awards, the local paper for our Cold Meece technical centre, demonstrates that we’re definitely on the right track.”

Smart Fleet Solutions aims to curate the complete training package so that its technicians become multi-skilled across the workshops, not just in one skill. The company has developed a bespoke maintenance technical accreditation to continue to widen its skills base and is focusing on training to ensure it is meeting the demands of new technology specifically electric vehicle training. This enables the company to best help the major fleet operators, rental companies and vehicle manufacturers it partners with to unlock the value of every end of lease vehicle being de-fleeted.

Through its training programme, Smart Fleet Solutions has built and retained an increasing number of skilled and multi-skilled employees specific to its business requirement and objectives whilst developing long-term careers with opportunities for promotion and progression.
