Smart Fleet Solutions to spotlight impact of ADAS on vehicle repairs at Great British Fleet Event

Cutting-edge developments in vehicle refurbishment and repair, including when it comes to ADAS technologies, are to come under the spotlight by Smart Fleet Solutions at Fleet World’s Great British Fleet Event in January.

The business, a key supporter of the inaugural 2019 GBFE event, is returning for the show on 30 January 2020 at the Novotel London West to demonstrate the smart way of working to unlock the value of every end-of-life vehicle being defleeted through a tailored range of end-to-end services.

This includes managing topical issues such as the growing addition of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) semi-autonomous features on today’s cars. Many

mainstream fleet cars are now fitted with a wide range of ADAS devices and EU legislation will see a number of systems, including Intelligent Speed Assistance and AEB, become mandatory on new cars from mid-2022. In fact, the BVRLA predicts that nearly three-quarters (72%) of the total vehicle fleet will have ADAS features fitted by 2030.

However, SmartFleet – which partners with major fleet operators, rental companies and vehicle manufacturers and has 100+ years’ experience in the motor industry – has warned that the ever-increasing complexity of ADAS, including electronics and changes in body architecture, will inevitably drive up the costs of parts, refurbishment and repairs.

Managing director Theo Kortland explained: “These positive developments place a great deal of responsibility on the refurbishment and repair industries to ensure that quality and safety standards are maintained by continually investing in the latest cutting-edge equipment as well as training its people to utilise that equipment so that fleets can be maintained and vehicles  can be carried out to the very highest standards.

“The shortage of skilled technicians and the complexity of the work needed to maintain and de-fleet vehicles is also impacting fleet operators in the form of increased repair costs and longer turnaround times. At the same time, fleet operators are facing increasing margin pressures and many are taking the decision to lengthen their fleet lifecycles as a result of the uncertain economic outlook.”

At the Great British Fleet Event, Smart Fleet Solutions’ refurbishment experts will be available on its stand to talk about ADAS developments and how its investment in the latest cutting-edge equipment, pioneering new repair techniques and ground-breaking technology, enables its technicians to maintain and de-fleet vehicles to the highest quality and safety standards.

Visitors to the Smart Fleet Solutions stand will be able to find out about new initiatives such as its Rapid In-Life Repair services for smaller, non-structural repairs and also how it partners with its clients to deliver integrated remarketing services.

Smart Fleet Solutions will also talk to GBFE visitors about its other plans for 2020, which include entering the in-life accident repair market for the first time. Next year will also see the business expanding its green/recycled parts ordering system to include client-specific parts’ ordering rules.

Smart Fleet Solutions is also launching a new inspection application harnessing the latest data to provide instant vehicle grading and repair estimates in real time, which it says will save customers days on the vehicle processing times; further details will be available at GBFE.
