Supplier Awards

Innovation in RISK MANAGEMENT

WINNER > VisionTrack

Video telematics usage continues to grow among fleets but finding time to assess the footage can be a major pitfall. With VisionTrack’s NARA (Notification, Analysis and Risk Assessment) post-analysis solution, operators can simply “cut through the noise”, using AI technologies to automatically validate footage and generate alerts if necessary. Time-saving and potentially life-saving too.

HIGHLY COMMENDED > DAVIS

Innovation in COST REDUCTION

WINNER > DAVIS

As inflation continues to soar, fleets are coming under huge pressure to contain costs as much as possible – an area where the recently launched DAVIS Fleet platform can help. The intuitive fleet management solution has an array of features to help operators get insights into their fleet and take action on costs. Smart technology that gives you all the insights you need to manage your fleet and outgoings more effectively.

HIGHLY COMMENDED > Lex Autolease

Innovation in MOBILITY

WINNER > Northgate

Making the switch to EVs can be frankly daunting but Northgate’s Drive to Zero programme provides a full suite of solutions to ensure a seamless transition. Five key elements ensure that everything is taken care of, from thorough analysis on which vehicles are suitable to go electric and a full range of EVs to choose from, through to driver training, servicing and maintenance and charging infrastructure – all via a single managed contract and monthly invoice.

HIGHLY COMMENDED > Europcar Mobility Group

Innovation in customer service

WINNER > Ogilvie Fleet

Providing excellent customer service is key to any fleet organisation worth their salt but it’s an area where Ogilvie particularly excels, as shown by perennial above-average scores in FleetEye’s Customer Service Index (CSI) and its own TouchPoint survey.

The contract hire and leasing company’s focus on staying ahead of the curve through industry-leading innovations is evidenced by its latest work to manage customer expectations during the semiconductor shortage through its lead-time generator – which uses inhouse and industry data to generate estimates on vehicle deliveries, accurate to between 2-3 weeks.

It’s a great way to remove guesswork from fleet managers looking to keep their drivers mobile – and a clear winner for Innovation in Customer Service in our eyes.

HIGHLY COMMENDED > SG Fleet

Innovation in SMR

WINNER > Fleet Operations

Ensuring vehicles are correctly inspected and defects managed is a vital but highly time-consuming area of fleet management – one where Fleet Operations’ MOVE vehicle inspection and defect management solution can deliver major efficiencies. It automates the entire experience – including booking in repairs at an approved garage and sorting alternative mobility options – while also checking drivers’ fitness to drive, cutting downtime and costs. Moreover, its algorithms work to predict future maintenance needs, creating effective preventative maintenance programme. The ultimate in compliance.

HIGHLY COMMENDED > Geotab

Innovation in remarketing

WINNER > CLM Fleet Management

More than just a fleet management company, CLM has recently expanded its remarketing operation with an investment in a 16,500 sq. ft logistics facility. Located next to its head office in Newport Pagnell, it’s able to support with on-site storage of over 800 vehicles and opening up an extensive range of solutions. Services include storage, reallocation and disposal, incorporating inspections to BVRLA standards. But CLM also offers much, much more. A client list that includes car dealers, plus rental, leasing and fleet management companies says it all.

HIGHLY COMMENDED > Aston Barclay

Innovation in digital

WINNER > Engineius

Since Engineius’ tech-focused logistics service launched in 2018, the company has worked tirelessly since to ensure it stays at the forefront of digital innovations. With many of its fleet customers having migrated to buying second-hand vehicles directly from consumers to mitigate supply shortages, the “Snap, Chat and Move Service” provides an enhanced digital journey to give added protection with remote purchases. Other latest additions include advanced text alerts and a new “360 degree” feedback service, improving the customer experience. All ensuring that Engineius stays at the top of its game.

HIGHLY COMMENDED > VisionTrack

Fleet Manager Awards

Fleet Manager Superstar

WINNER >
Simon Ungless – The AA

In just 18 months as commercial group fleet manager at the AA, Simon Ungless has significantly advanced efficiency and safety and reduced the environmental impact of the 3,000-strong fleet at the motoring association.

His work includes innovating on safety through the introduction of new technologies to protect drivers and vehicles while also cutting costs.

Despite the AA running a complex fleet of cars and operational vehicles to meet business needs, Simon has increasingly found ways to navigate the alternative fuels transition – including the arrival of the first hydrogen-powered breakdown vehicle in the form of a Hyundai Nexo.

He’s also taken a foremost role at industry events, webinars and in the AA’s free ‘yellow’ papers for fleets, sharing his best practice insights and making a difference to other operators.

Financial Superstar

WINNER >
Peter Jardine – Connells

Fleets of any size are always a big drain on company finances but for larger operators, effective management of fleet profit and loss is particularly critical to the overall performance of the business.

Connells Group, the UK’s largest high street estate agency and property services provider, and its group fleet director Peter Jardine provide best practice examples of latest innovations and thinking in this area.

In the last year, changes to its 3,000-strong fleet have seen new funding methods introduced, along with blended fleet maintenance solutions, increased forward planning on vehicle orders and an NI-saving salary sacrifice scheme.

It all adds up to a total saving of £5.6m over a four-year period – and shows why we think Peter is a Financial Superstar.

ECO Superstar

WINNER >
Graham Robinson – SSE

SSE is well on the way to a zero-emission fleet – and national fleet zero emissions manager Graham Robinson has been instrumental to its success.

Despite supply challenges, more than half of its car fleet is already fully electric while around a fifth are plug-in hybrid. Plans are also in place to transition the existing commercial fleet to zero emissions while charging infrastructure is being rapidly rolled out – including at drivers’ homes.

The future for the SSE fleet is green and the energy giant wants to be at the forefront of innovation and any alternative fuel developments. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for it.

WINNER > Škoda Superb

The big Czech car continues to live up to its name in both saloon and estate form, with no contenders being able to knock it off its perch. The addition of plug-in hybrid technology enhanced its appeal to fleet drivers, with many finding it is a very cost-effective choice as financial pressures bite elsewhere.

Best Compact Executive Car

WINNER > BMW 3 Series

Car fashions might have evolved to SUVs, but the 3 Series retains its appeal to drivers who want a straightforward saloon that does pretty much everything right. The broad range of powertrains helps keep that demand up – and fleet drivers are very keen to see what comes next for the compact car champion.

Best Executive Car

The 5 Series continues to impress and still be seen by many as the ultimate driving machine with its performance, comfort and interior quality. In a world that is increasingly populated by electric vehicles, this BMW is proof that some drivers aren’t keen on giving up their ICE powered cars just yet.

Best Luxury Car

WINNER > Range Rover

The hype surrounding the launch of a new Range Rover is always huge and, in the case of the latest model, it was justified. The moment you step through the door, it oozes class – and it is equally impressive on – and off the road. Drivers and passengers will be transported in comfort, with ultimate refinement and performance added in.

Fleet Rising Star

WINNER > Genesis

It’s been a whirlwind couple of years for the Korean brand, but also a very successful one with the launch of a range of cars that appeal directly to fleet drivers. The company looks set to continue its product offensive over the next 12 months, as the Genesis name becomes more and more familiar in the UK market.

Fleet Manufacturer of the Year

WINNER > Vauxhall @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1107305727 0 0 415 0;}@font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-469750017 -1073732485 9 0 511 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:8.0pt; margin-left:0cm; line-height:107%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}.MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:Arial; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language:EN-US; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1107305727 0 0 415 0;}@font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-469750017 -1073732485 9 0 511 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:8.0pt; margin-left:0cm; line-height:107%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}.MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:Arial; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language:EN-US; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;}

Vauxhall has always been committed to the demands of fleet drivers and the latest Astra is just one example of how it still has its eye on the ball. The arrival of plug-in hybrid and electric versions of its core fleet models ensures that the brand will remain a popular choice as the market moves away from diesel and petrol power.

EV Fleet World

Manufacturer Awards

Best EV City Car

WINNER > Fiat 500-e

Not all electric cars have to offer a huge number of miles from every charge – and the proof of that can be seen in the 500-e. The little battery powered car remains as popular as ever and, surprisingly, has little competition in the city car segment. That may change in the future but any contenders to the crown will have to be very good to displace the Fiat.

Best EV Supermini

WINNER > Peugeot e-208

Proof that there is life in the supermini segment in the age of electric vehicles. The e-208 boasts a decent driving range, is fun to drive and offers plenty of room inside. The interior is well equipped and drivers will find it easy to get around urban environments thanks to nimble steering.

Best EV Lower Medium SUV

WINNER > MG4 EV

A mightily impressive addition to the MG range, which continues to launch products that enable drivers to transition to electric vehicles in a cost-effective way. Value for money isn’t the only positive here, though – the MG4 is great to drive, spacious and offers an impressive driving range.

Best EV Small SUV

WINNER > Kia Niro EV

The e-Niro was an impressive product in a relatively small sector, but its replacement raises the bar in terms of driving range, interior comfort and onboard technologies and safety systems. A fantastic addition to Kia’s evolving – and improving – product lineup.

Best EV Medium SUV

WINNER > Audi Q4 e-tron @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1107305727 0 0 415 0;}@font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-469750017 -1073732485 9 0 511 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:8.0pt; margin-left:0cm; line-height:107%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}.MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:Arial; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language:EN-US; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;}

With the usual high interior quality drivers expect from an Audi – and impressive driving dynamics – the Q4 e-tron is still the go-to electric SUV in this segment. Other e-tron models have taken inspiration and confidence from the success that Audi has had with the Q4.

Best EV Compact Executive Car

WINNER > Hyundai IONIQ 6

The IONIQ 6 builds on the big success of the IONIQ 5 with a car that offers more refinement, comfort and space than its smaller sibling. A quality interior and advanced technology onboard are particular highlights that will be welcomed by many fleet drivers.

Best EV Executive Car

WINNER > Mercedes-Benz EQE @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1107305727 0 0 415 0;}@font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-469750017 -1073732485 9 0 511 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:8.0pt; margin-left:0cm; line-height:107%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}.MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:Arial; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language:EN-US; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1107305727 0 0 415 0;}@font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-469750017 -1073732485 9 0 511 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:8.0pt; margin-left:0cm; line-height:107%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}.MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:Arial; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language:EN-US; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;}

There is now an impressive lineup of electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, all under the EQ banner. As a premium SUV, the EQE stands out for its well-appointed interior, dynamics and driving range that ensures long journeys can be completed with confidence.

Best EV Van

WINNER > Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo

Volkswagen’s ID range of electric cars has established the manufacturer as a producer of dedicated electric vehicle platforms and the logical extension to this has been to include light CVs in the same process. The VW ID. Buzz Cargo is the first model to emerge, providing a compact to medium sized van built on an electric only platform. With a design recalling the original 1949 VW Transporter, it’s a head-turner, while the ID electric driving experience is one that is likely to please drivers. With sales through VW Commercial Vehicles, EV van fleet customers can expect the support they would hope for from a van manufacturer.

One to Watch

WINNER > BYD Atto 3

It might be a new company to the UK automotive scene, but BYD has a strong pedigree in with electric vehicles and its debut product on the market is very impressive. A high-quality interior and impressive dynamics setup are just two of the attributes that will appeal to fleets over the coming months.

Innovation in Electric Vehicles

WINNER > Co Charger

For many fleets, especially return-to-home operators, the biggest barrier to switching to EVs is the lack of ability to charge at home. Some 50% of drivers can’t have home charge points – potentially rising to 75% for van drivers – and it’s this problem that the Co Charger community charging platform tackles.

Its app and platform enable people with home or workplace charge points to rent them to local EV drivers – on a bookable, dependable, convenient and affordable basis. It’s simple, easy and mutually beneficial – and for fleets, it could make the difference between running an EV or being stuck with a costly and polluting ICE van.

Innovation in Technology

WINNER > Michelin Connected Fleet

Michelin Connected Fleet’s MoveElectric delivers a holistic solution to adopting and optimising EVs – including vans but also cars and trucks.

Using real-life proof points and data, it recommends the best way to transition to either EVs or hybrids – depending on specific needs. It also supports fleets thereafter, training drivers, providing an app for support and analysing charging behaviours and charging activity per vehicle, helping to reduce downtime and facilitate driver reimbursement.

It’s already assisted major fleets, such as Marston Holdings, and is a dedicated way to cut fleet CO2 emissions, reduce operating costs and to integrate EVs for the most efficient last-mile delivery strategy.

SMALL Van of the Year

WINNER > Toyota Corolla Commercial

The number of small vans on the market has dwindled in recent years, so Toyota might be seen as taking a gamble in launching the Corolla Commercial Hybrid last year. It has already found a ready market among fleets carrying light loads. It’s also a British success story. The model is built and converted at Toyota’s Burnaston facility near Derby. It’s well-equipped, easy to drive and offers a realistic 60mpg at petrol, not diesel prices. And a revised model has already been launched offering even lower fuel consumption.

Compact High-Cube Van of the Year

WINNER > Renault Kangoo / Mercedes-Benz Citan / Nissan Townstar

We have had to wait a while for the arrival of the new Renault/Mercedes-Benz/Nissan trio of compact high-cube vans, available with petrol, diesel and electric power options, but it has been worth the wait. The latest versions are better than ever. The choice of two lengths and a crew van plus the range of power options bring the vans right up to date. Good build quality, a long list of options including driver safety systems and a much-improved driving experience compared with its predecessors helped secure the prize this year.

Launched almost seven years ago, Stellantis’ medium van offers versatility with a choice of three different lengths, diesel or electric drive and a choice of panel or crew vans. Features such as the through-loading bulkhead add to the van’s loading flexibility, by making it easy to carry longer items such as ladders, pipes and timber securely. There’s plenty of storage space in the cab, while the choice of driver assistance systems makes it attractive to fleets.

Large Van of the Year

WINNER > Ford E-Transit

New to the market last year, Ford has extensively re-engineered its large van for electric power and produced a model packed with good features, and offering excellent range, up to 197 miles. There’s a choice of power outputs, a comprehensive model range between 3,500kg and 4,250kg and options such as Ford’s ProPower Onboard, providing mains power for tools and equipment. With standard equipment including heated seats, keyless start and electronic air temperature control, E-Transit comes well specified.

Pickup of the Year

WINNER > Ford Ranger

The Ranger was the fifth best-selling light CV in the UK last year as well as the best selling pickup truck. The range is comprehensive including single, extended and double cab models with the range topping high-performance Ranger Raptor offering formidable off road capabilities. A new model is just over the horizon, developed jointly with Volkswagen. It’s not surprising that the current model is such a favourite with pickup buyers. Apart from the body options, there’s a choice of diesel engines, as well as manual and 10-speed automatic transmissions. It’s replacement will certainly whet a few appetites.

Light Truck of the Year

WINNER > Iveco Daily @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1107305727 0 0 415 0;}@font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-469750017 -1073732485 9 0 511 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin:0cm; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}.MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;}

Frequent model refreshes have helped to ensure that the Iveco Daily continues to sell well in the light truck sector. The backbone of Daily is its proper truck chassis and the breadth of the model range, with fleet buyers offered a broad range of models from vans to conversions. It gets better to drive with each new generation with a choice of engines and transmissions and is soon to be joined by an electric version. Specialist conversions for a range of customers help to give the Daily plenty of fleet appeal.

Ford came from behind in the electric van market and with the launch of E-Transit last year, showed its competitors how it’s done. E-Transit offers a very competitive product. As we have said, it offers long range and high specification with the attraction of connectivity straight from the factory, like every other new Ford light CV, enabling fleets to choose from a range of fleet management and telematics options. It is the best large electric van on the market and a worthy winner of of Van of the Year award 2023.

Van Manufacturer of the Year

WINNER > Ford Pro

Ford set about re-inventing itself last year, gearing up for a future beyond the internal combustion engine. We know the future will be electric, whether using batteries or hydrogen fuel cells. Autonomous vehicles will be part of the picture too, which means connectivity will play a vital role, which in turn opens up other possibilities from predictive maintenance to other services that light CV fleets will become more reliant on in the future. Ford has made no secret of the fact that it needs to be more than a vehicle manufacturer and establishing Ford Pro opens a range of services that van customers need.
