Fleet drivers can now use a 50kW-capable rapid charger at home thanks to a new development from ZPN Energy.
The UK energy specialist, charging partner at last month’s Great British Fleet Event 2023, has launched a version of its existing Zapme mobile charger that’s been configured for home rapid charging use.
Zapme Home is able to store 50kWh of green energy that can be delivered at 50kW to the EV. It’s also able to take the energy off-peak at the lowest cost from a typical home electrical supply.
Home EV chargers are limited to 3 or 7kW – unless you have a three-phase electrical supply direct to the charger, which is rare. Most AC chargers are then limited to 11kW, even with a 22kW charger.
But using the Zapme Home charger means that drivers are able to top up their cars in minutes not hours.
The firm says it’s a “game-changer for home charging” and cites examples including drivers who are on-call.
James Foster, ZPN’s CEO, added: “This also removes the obvious constraint in most two-car homes that with a 7kWh charger, there simply isn’t enough hours in the day to charge both cars fully.”
ZPN Home recharges itself in several modes, continuous or off peak and can also be attached to solar with a suitable home energy management unit while ZPN’s unit can also supply energy to the home, acting as an energy storage.
Foster continued: “The application of this technology extends to business too, for high-demand applications with poor grid connections such as police, ambulance or even the local pizza delivery; anything with critical and flexible demands.”
