Fleets get on board with Road Safety Week 2020

Fleets including Royal Mail Group are once again taking part in Road Safety Week to demonstrate their commitment to road safety to staff, customers and local communities.

The event is run every year by Brake to stimulate community involvement in promoting road safety awareness year-round.

This year’s initiative takes place from 1622 November 2020 and is focused on the theme of No Need to Speed; a subject chosen following the findings in a Brake survey that only a quarter of people believe that vehicles travel at safe speeds on the street where they live.

Joshua Harris, director of campaigns at Brake, said: “Speed plays a part in every crash and just 1mph can mean the difference between life and death on the roads. This Road Safety Week we want to help everyone understand why speed matters and to join together to say there is ‘no need to speed’ on our roads.”

As part of the promotion for Road SafetyBrake is offering a free action pack which includes support on how to improve road safety culture at work and new driver guidance on speed. It also provides free tools and posters to display and fundraising activities to support victims of road death and injury

Mark Bromhall, road safety manager for Royal Mail Group, commented: “Road Safety Week provides us with an important focal point to engage our staff, whether they drive fleet vehicles or for personal use. With so many ways to take part, it helps us show staff, customers and the local communities we serve, that road safety is embedded into our culture.”
