BMW has updated its 2 Series Gran Coupé saloon with a more pronounced design, enhanced suspension technology and latest-generation petrols.
Debuted following the recent launch of the closely related 1 Series hatchback, it’s also classed as a new generation despite being based on the same platform as before.
The Audi A3 rival is available in two petrol versions, with no diesel units offered in the UK.
The line-up starts with the two-wheel-drive 220 M Sport Gran Coupé, priced from £34,915 and including 48V mild hybrid technology in the form of a 20hp electric motor integrated in the seven-speed Steptronic transmission to assist the combustion engine. The result is 170hp along with a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 143mph. WLTP combined fuel economy is 51.4-53.3mpg with 129-120g/km of CO2.
The four-wheel-drive M235 xDrive Gran Coupé is priced from £44,435 and features a four-cylinder turbo petrol, generating 300hp of power and 400Nm of torque; good for 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. It’s equipped with the BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, along with the same seven-speed Steptronic transmission as the 220. Combined fuel economy is 34.4-37.7mpg with 170-185g/km CO2 emissions.
Ride comfort has been enhanced by a new suspension and damping system and adaptive M suspension comes as standard.
Exterior design has been given a major revamp for an “extrovert” new look as well as increased dimensions. The new 2 Series Gran Coupé is now 20mm longer and 25mm higher although boot space remains the same at 430 litres, dropping to 360 litres for the 220 mild hybrid due to the 48V battery being housed under the luggage compartment.
The new interior has also been heavily revised and gains a 10.25-inch driver display and a 10.7-inch infotainment display. The latest version of BMW iDrive with QuickSelect allows direct access to functions without switching to a submenu.
Other features include BMW Live Cockpit Plus with the cloud-based maps navigation system and a wide range of features and digital services based on BMW’s Operating System 9, including latest driving assistance and parking systems.
Driving assistant including front collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist alerts and brake function is standard as well as crossroads warning. The driving assistant also includes cruise control with braking function, manual speed limit assist, speed limit info with no-overtaking indicator and anticipation, emergency steering intervention, lane departure warning with lane return, rear collision warning and exit warning.
Standard features also deliver parking assistant, with active park distance control, reversing assist camera, reversing assistant and trailer assistant.
First customer deliveries are due March 2025.
