BMW has expanded its 2 Series range with the addition of the four-door Gran Coupe, which starts UK deliveries this week.
Revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019, the new model completes both BMW’s 2 Series line-up and the company’s four-door coupé range.
It’s priced from £25,815 and features the latest front-wheel-drive and AWD architecture also seen in the BMW 1 Series, along with an array of other technological developments.
Engine line-up currently brings three choices: two petrols and one diesel. The entry-level 218i is powered by a revised 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol, with maximum power of 140hp and accelerating from zero to 62mph in 8.7 seconds with a top speed of 134mph. It returns 42.2-47.1 mpg (WLTP) with CO2 emissions of 123-114g/km (NEDC Correlated).
The M235i xDrive features a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine, delivering a maximum output of 306hp with the help of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It offers a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155mph. The M235i returns 36.2-37.2 mpg (WLTP) with CO2 emissions of 153g/km (NEDC Correlated).
Diesel power is provided in the form of the 190hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW 220d, bringing a 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 146mph. The BMW 220d returns 53.3-57.6 mpg (WLTP) and emits 110g/km of CO2 (NEDC Correlated).
Both the 220d and the M235i xDrive are married up to a revised eight-speed Steptronic sport transmission, which features improvements to the shift comfort and acoustic properties.
Three trims are offered: Sport, M Sport and the M Performance M235i xDrive. Entry-level equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, front & rear Park Distance Control, two-zone automatic air-con, BMW Connected Package Plus, BMW Live Cockpit Plus and Active Guard Plus with Lane Departure Warning.
