A fundraiser supporting the Grenfell Foundation is being provided with a support vehicle from Europcar to assist its work.
Veteran fundraiser Jim Cowan, the man behind Cancer Research Race for Life, and Aide Myatt, former Army WO1, are to embark on Challenge 72 later this week; a 72-mile walk that they will carry out in under 72 hours, each carrying a load of 72 pounds.
The event, taking place on Thursday 27 August 2020, is being held to remember the 72 lives tragically lost in the events at Grenfell Tower on 14 June 2017. All money raised will be donated to The Grenfell Foundation, which supports the victims, bereaved families, survivors and the community who continue to struggle with the devastating aftermath the fire left in its wake.
The challenge will see the team set out from the Grenfell Memorial Garden at 8am as they walk to the Thames, cross at Tower Bridge, and then west along the river to the 36-mile point at Weybridge. From there, they will retrace their steps back to the finish line at Grenfell Memorial Garden on 29 August at approximately 16:35.
The fundraising duo are being assisted in their work by a four-strong team, supported by the Europcar seven-seat vehicle, which will also carry essential supplies donated by supermarket chain Morrisons.
Jim Cowan (pictured) said of the event: “This is a cause incredibly close our hearts, and the nation’s hearts as we continue to mourn the loss of those who fell victim to the fire at Grenfell, and those affected within the local community. We were there the morning following the incident to help out any way we could and we hope to continue that support in an effort to make a difference to the lives of those affected by the tragic events of that night.
“We also encourage anyone who would like to join us in the final two miles to do so (whilst observing social distancing) at approximately 4pm on 29 August at Queensway Tube Station as we head towards the finish line. You can also check our progress and schedule updates on our Facebook page.”

All funds raised will be used to provide counselling and support the wellbeing of those affected.
