Compleo urges education sector to charge up campuses before EV grant runs out

EV charging specialist Compleo has launched a new campaign urging universities, colleges and schools to grab their share of a government grant before it closes in March 2025.

Its Charge up your Campus campaign raises awareness of a “little-known” fund which allows academic institutions to claim up to £100,000 towards the installation of EV charging points.

The grant offers institutions a way to electrify their car parks, with minimal outlay. Institutions must apply before 31 March 2025, but have 180 days to spend the voucher, providing the flexibility to put the costs into next financial year.

Clare Nicol, head of marketing and communications for Compleo UK, said: “We know that the education sector is under more financial pressure than ever. So we wanted to bring a little fun to the message. We know that if your job is to manage car parks, there’s always something to do, it can be a lot of hassle. Adding EV charging can feel like such a daunting task that you just don’t know where to start. And that’s where we want to help.”

The Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions opened in February 2024 and enables institutions to install electric vehicle charge point sockets at their site(s). Applications can get 75% off the cost to buy and install charge points up to a maximum of £2,500 per socket and a limit of 40 sockets across all sites including any applications made previously via the Workplace Charging Scheme.
