Drivetech launches risk reduction course to boost funeral care driver safety

Drivetech, part of the AA, has launched a new course geared towards reducing driving risk for funeral care providers.

The half-day course is tailored to employees required to drive ceremonial vehicles, including hearses, limousines or private ambulances, addressing the unique challenges they face. This training helps drivers to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.

Designed to reduce accidents and improve driving standards, the Funeralcare On-Road Risk Reduction course aims to reduce the likelihood of road traffic incidents. Trainers adapt the course to meet individual needs, prioritising high-risk development areas for each participant.

Ceremonial vehicle drivers frequently contend with traffic congestion, demanding schedules, and passengers with high expectations. Professional training can help them develop stress management and coping strategies to enhance their wellbeing.

The course will help drivers learn how to identify future accident risk situations; recognise and react to hazards earlier; use contemporary driving techniques to reduce risk, driving-related stress and improve efficiency; apply coping strategies to deal with the pressures and distractions encountered with work-related driving; and identify speed limits quickly and easily.

On completion, each driver will create a personal action plan for continuous improvement of their Driver ABCs (attitude, behaviour and competence), promoting ongoing risk reduction mindset adoption.

Nick Butler, director, Drivetech, commented: “In focusing on individual drivers’ unique risks and behaviours, we can provide a tailored training experience that promotes safer driving habits and reduces the likelihood of accidents. We look forward to helping to increase driver safety and wellbeing in this sector.”
