Fleets urged not to sacrifice safety amid economic uncertainty

Fleets cutting safety budgets are being warned of the extra risks to drivers and potentially higher costs to the business.

Drivetech, part of the AA and an event partner for this month’s Great British Fleet Event, said work by its recently launched fleet consultancy service has revealed rising costs and the transition to alternative fuels are putting increased pressure on safety budgets.

Anthony Marcou, UK commercial consultant, Drivetech, said: “Since the launch of Drivetech Consult, we’ve engaged with hundreds of businesses on their pain points and frustrations. Fleets, both large and small, are, out of sheer necessity, putting more of their safety budgets into other areas, as costs continue to rise across all elements of fleet management.”

The company is now warning of the consequences of cutting safety budgets – and says its experts can help fleets with risk management.

“We know that driver safety can be a tough arena to navigate,” outlined Nick Butler, director, Drivetech. “We’re here to reduce the pressure in the wake of the new financial year, helping businesses reduce their pain points and levels of risk and accident rates, while assisting with implementation and ongoing reporting in a way that’s entirely tailored to their personal business needs.”
