MG Cyberster EV roadster revealed ahead of 2024 UK debut

Great British Fleet Event partner MG has officially confirmed production plans for an all-electric sports car, rebooting its roadster heritage for a new era.

The brand, owned by China’s SAIC, announced the news at the Shanghai motor show as it revealed the design.

Expected on sale in the UK and Europe in the summer of 2024 – when the marque celebrates its centenary – it marks a return to sportscar production, providing a spiritual successor to the TF, while opening a “bold and compelling new chapter”.

Carl Gotham, advanced design director of the company’s Marylebone design studio in London, commented: “The focus for Cyberster was to create a design that was respectful of the brand’s illustrious past and to bring back that sporting bloodline, while also being absolutely clear that it should be modern and forward-facing like the MG of today, completely in-tune with the rapid transition to electric vehicles.”

Design is toned down from the concept shown in 2021 and includes traditional roadster features such as the long bonnet and low nose, but with scissor doors and ‘Kammback’ rear design.

Previously leaked information from patents suggests there will be a single-motor RWD version with 314hp and a dual-motor AWD configuration with 544hp. According to reports, it could have an electric range of 500 miles on a single charge and a 0-62mph time of less than three seconds.

Guy Pigounakis, MG Motor UK’s commercial director, said: “This is the perfect time to introduce an MG that completely reconnects with our performance DNA and is designed to enthral the driver on every level. MG is all set for an electric, sporting future and it is the perfect way to start celebrating our 100th anniversary.”
