MG updates HS SUV with new look and tech

Great British Fleet Event partner MG has updated its HS flagship SUV with a bolder new design and latest infotainment technology while cutting pricing.

Launched in the UK in 2019, the HS large SUV has proved popular with drivers and took the crown as the UK’s best-selling new car in January 2023. The facelifted version will build on this by offering updated design and specification while cutting entry pricing to £23,495.

Styling updates for the brand’s best-selling model include the debut of new bi-function LED headlights, a more striking grille design and a new front bumper. Rear-end updates include a new bumper design, revised dual exhaust outlets and LED taillights, alongside a new 18-inch diamond-cut wheel design and new Urban Grey colour choice.

It also features an upgraded version of the 10.1-inch infotainment system, featuring enhanced hardware to allow faster and smoother functionality.

The new MG HS will be offered in SE or Trophy specification, replacing the previous Excite and Exclusive grades.

Priced at £23,495 – down £60 from the former Excite models – entry-level SE models include bi-function LED headlights with front and rear sequential indicators for the first time – alongside air con, sat-nav, rear parking camera with sensors, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and a leather steering wheel.

Trophy specification, priced from £25,995 – down by £60 again compared to the former Exclusive grade, adds in leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, rear privacy glass and an upgraded six-speaker audio system.

Both models get the MG Pilot package of driver assistance features as standard – including active emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, lane keep assist with lane departure warning system, intelligent speed limit assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and intelligent high beam assist.

The facelifted model is available with a 162hp 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine with a manual gearbox as standard and an optional dual-clutch DCT gearbox available.

The existing plug-in hybrid HS will also remain on sale alongside the facelifted HS petrol. The PHEV features a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine working in tandem with a 121hp electric motor to give an EV-only range of 32 miles.

Earlier this week, MG officially confirmed production plans for its Cyberster all-electric sports car. Expected on sale in the UK and Europe in the summer of 2024 – when the marque celebrates its centenary – it marks the brand’s return to sportscar production.

The company will also be at next week’s Great British Fleet Event to showcase its latest vehicles. To sign up for a free ticket to attend, click here.
