Volvo’s new-look XC90 opens for orders

Volvo has announced specification and prices for its latest XC90 SUV.

On sale now, the heavily revamped XC90 is priced from £63,790 for the B5 mild-hybrid versions and from £72,650 for the T8 plug-in hybrids.

The new-look XC90 gets latest design details that bring it more in line with the EX90 fully electric SUV. Changes include a new grille treatment, slimmer headlight units that carry over the ‘Thor’s hammer’ detailing, and a reprofiled bonnet and front bumper. A new paint colour and interior upholstery option also debut.

The main change to the cabin is the arrival of a free-standing 11.2-inch touchscreen control system. Like the system in the EX30 and EX90 models, it now features a higher-resolution display and more intuitive operation. It brings one-touch access to the most frequently used functions and apps, as well as the Drive Mode settings in plug-in hybrid versions.

Three model grades – Core, Plus and Ultra – are on offer with enhanced equipment specifications.

Entry level Core versions come with four-zone climate control, heated front and outer middle-row seats, and a heated steering wheel plus a new upholstery material created from recyclables.

In addition to the new 11.2-inch touchscreen with Google built in, the entry specification now includes larger, 20-inch alloy wheels with a contrasting black and diamond-cut finish. Other features include matrix LED headlights, a reversing camera and a full array of systems for active and passive safety protection, and driver warning and assistance. The B5 AWD Core is priced at £63,790 while the T8 Plug-in Hybrid AWD Core is £72,650.

The Plug grade introduces the Active Four-C Chassis, with adaptive dampers and electronic air suspension, plus a 360-degree surround-view camera system and side proximity sensors. The cabin gains a tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof with sunshade and upgraded audio system, with a 600W Harman Kardon set-up, complete with 13 speakers. Plus versions are priced at £68,790 for the B5 AWD and £77,650 for the T8 Plug-in Hybrid AWD.

The range-topping Ultra models include 21-inch alloy wheels, laminated glazing, dark-tinted rear windows with integrated side window shades, ventilated and perforated Nappa leather upholstery, and front seats with a built-in massage function and power-adjustable side bolsters. The audio experience upscales with a 1400W Bowers & Wilkins 18-speaker system.  Ultra versions cost £75,290 for the mild hybrid and £84,150 for the plug-in hybrid.

Ultra versions can also be specified with a Dark or Bright styling theme, featuring high-gloss black or chrome exterior detailing respectively. The Bright theme is standard for the Core grade, while Plus cars come with the dark theme.

The T8 petrol-electric plug-in hybrid offers up to 44 miles of electric driving, with battery recharging from empty to full taking from three hours. With a 310hp petrol engine and a 145hp electric motor, the T8 can accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds, while CO2 emissions are from 30g/km.

The B5 mild-hybrid petrol delivers 250hp and accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds. Its CO2 emissions are from 193g/km.

The new XC90 is available to order now with first customer deliveries expected in early 2025.
