Ubeeqo has launched its car sharing scheme in three new boroughs in London – Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham.
Announced just days after the London Ultra-Low Emission Zone went live, it means that the car sharing scheme is now available in eight boroughs, offering ULEZ-compliant cars from the East End to the West End – from Walthamstow to Wandsworth – while 140 new Ubeeqo vehicles have also been added to the fleet. These include the Mercedes-Benz GLA, the VW Golf and Fiat 500 as well as Citroën Dispatch vans.
Vehicles are available to hire from £3 per hour (£30 per day), with rates including fuel, insurance, 30 free miles per booking, Dart Charge and London Congestion Charge.
Vehicles can be accessed via an RFID card or the Ubeeqo app, and are based in geo-fenced locations within a specific borough; a model that Ubeeqo believes plays a crucial role in reducing congestion and parking issues, because the parking bay is available for others to use when the Ubeeqo vehicle is on hire, unlike traditional ‘back to base’ car club schemes.
The firm, part of Europcar Mobility Group, also says its scheme enables boroughs to more easily manage the number and location of vehicles, compared to the one-way car club model.
Commenting on the scheme, Patrick Cresswell, managing director of Ubeeqo UK, said: “We are delighted to offer Londoners an additional transport option with Ubeeqo, which offers a self-service, low cost and conveniently located car club. By expanding the range and type of vehicles in our fleet, we hope London car owners will be encouraged to consider using the service as an alternative to vehicle ownership. And that should result in fewer cars on the road, and ultimately reduce emissions and congestion.”
Ubeeqo is promoting a special introductory offer which includes free lifetime membership plus £10 free driving credit. To register for the scheme and view the new locations, click here.
